About us:
The Arbeiter-Samariter-Jugend (ASJ) is the independent youth organization of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB). ASJ Hannover offers young people many opportunities to get involved and have fun together.
Like the ASB, the ASJ is neither affiliated with any religious denomination nor with any political party. Our work is carried out almost entirely by volunteers. Children and young people have many opportunities to take part in shaping our activities and are involved in key decisions.
The ASJ aims to support young people in becoming independent and responsible individuals. We want to inspire social commitment and promote values such as solidarity, tolerance, and humanity.
The Volunteers
All of our Volunteers are members of the ASB, and therefore also part of the ASJ. Most of us hold a JuLeiCa (Youth Leader Card), which means we have completed a multi-day training course focused on educational work with children and young people.
In addition, some of our team members have taken part in further training sessions, covering important topics such as addiction prevention and the prevention of sexualized violence.
The Board and the Youth Leader
Our board is an elected body. Every two years, all members of the ASJ vote to elect the board. The board consists of two board members, two assessors, and the youth leader. It represents the ASJ in all matters, for example in contact with the ASB or external partners.
The youth leader is part of the board, but unlike the other board members, they are also automatically a member of the ASB board. This ensures that the interests of the ASJ are well represented. Additionally, the youth leader serves as the main contact person for the state and federal youth organizations.
The Audit Committee
The Oversight Committee monitors whether the board acts in accordance with the statutes. These statutes are our internal “rulebook”. If the Oversight Committee finds that the board has not fulfilled its duties – or not fulfilled them sufficiently – it can submit proposals to address and correct the issues. The Oversight Committee consists of three elected members.
The Youth Work Coordinator
The Youth Work Coordinator is a permanent staff member of the ASB in Hanover who supports our youth work. They assist and advise the youth board in carrying out its responsibilities and take care of the day-to-day operations.
They answer your calls, respond to your emails, and handle all matters that arise between the ASB and the ASJ.
